How sweetly ironic
That a simple Blue Dog
Contain mysteries iconic

His eyes, so dramatic
Hold questions Socratic
That simple Blue Dog
Elusive, pragmatic

Colors charged and bombastic
Through settings elastic
Sits that simple Blue Dog
Silent message…Fantastic!

This painting was a family commission. Though a bit out of my wheelhouse as to style, I threw myself wholeheartedly into the conception and execution of this tribute to George Rodrigue and his wonderful Blue Dog–so beloved in Louisiana, and now all over the world. I hope George would approve of my interpretation of his singular creation, and of the placing of his warm and familiar visage within the bark of the spreading oak.
