Folk Tails: The Fairy Rabbit – Imagination

While resting on some country ground
I seemed to spy across the way
A soft and fluffy bunny brown
In hedgerow shadow — plain as day
But casual glance turned to a stare
No movement had that rabbit made
So slowly was I made aware
This rabbit ‘twas but trick of shade
Some small bush within the gloam
Clothed in my love for creatures small
Had sprouted from the sandy loam
A bunny “leaf-thing” – that was all
Now laughing at my self-deceit
I paved the way for more surprise
Forgetting nature spirits cheat
And hide within a shifting guise
So all too quick my heart deny
And give myself to reason’s sway
That bush so clear now to my eye
… Until I watched it hop away

The third in the Folk Tails Trilogy, The Fairy Rabbit chronicles my own experience while sitting one afternoon on the rock in Sedona where I do my best meditation.
