Moon of Fledgling Hawk
Under the Moon of Fledgling Hawk
A young girl stops to ponder
To interrupt her silent walk
And upward gaze in wonder
Yet still remains a sadness
For a childhood fading fast
And yet also a gladness
To take up a woman’s tasks
From deep within her heart a cry
A prayer to Spirit Hawk
To find her wings on which to fly
And her true path to walk
And then from out the star-filled night
A promise from above
A sacred feather’s downward flight
A gift of faith and love
Under the Moon of Fledging Hawk
A young girl stops to ponder
To interrupt her silent walk
And upward gaze in wonder

In Hopiland, November’s full moon is the Moon of Fledgling Hawk. In the painting, a young girl gazes upward into the star-filled Western sky where a sacred hawk feather floats magically down toward her – a message of guidance and protection.
